Feature: translated kitchen tickets

The same translation engine that helps customers read your menu can also print kitchen tickets in the language your chefs speak. Fewer mistakes on the line, happier staff.

Why translated menus?

When we first introduced translated menus, we really had your international customers in mind.

We did not expect them to become the driver of one of our most requested features.

In a large, multicultural city like London — just one of many where ORDR has a strong presence — the continuous influx of jobseekers means not everyone will be fluent in the local language. It is also common for growing food businesses to branch into the capital, bringing staff with them.

It quickly became clear that the same menu translation tool that works for your customers can work for your staff as well.

Now, on the kitchen pass

After a couple of months of beta testing with selected clients, you can now configure your ORDR kitchen tickets to be printed in the language spoken by your staff.

One of the ORDR restaurants in Naples messaged us: “We source staff for our Italian restaurant in Italy. Translated tickets have completely removed the biggest source of mistakes in our kitchen.”

When customers request “Tuna Sashimi”, your Japanese-speaking chef will be asked to prepare “マグロの刺身”. Pour yourself a vino bianco and relax.

Getting started

First, enable the languages you need for your business.

Head to the items list and fill in the translations your staff require.

When you are ready, change your main staff language in your location settings.

✻ The standing notice

What ORDR does about this.

If you are evaluating tills for a restaurant or a bar and you would rather not gamble on a vendor whose printing layer is held together with third-party middleware, we would be glad to show you ours.
